Yahya Dai (sax), Sıtkı Sırtanadolu (g), Jeff Giansily (p), Apostolos Sideris (b), Ferit Odman (d)

Formed by five very well known musicians for those who follow the jazz scene in Turkey, Spin’s members are Yahya Dai on the saxophone, Sıtkı Sırtanadolu on the guitar, Jeff Giansily on the piano, Apostolos Sideris on the contrabass and Ferit Odman on the drums. The name Spin, comes from the renowned move of the very famous pianist Thelonious Monk when he spins awestruck around himself when the music gets high.

The band started to take form in the early 2000s when Selim Benba and Sıtkı Sırtanadolu realized that they are speaking the same musical language. Compositions in accordance with the band’s musical stance gathered in time, created their album “Ilk” in 2007. There were eight original compositions in the album. Even though the band’s compositions are mostly Sıtkı Sırtanadolu’s work, Spin’s tradition of collective work forms the band’s musical base.

Spin’s music falls under the contemporary side of jazz and still has the traces of today’s jazz music and takes from New York jazz to European jazz. While the band’s compositions puts strong melodies forward, wide harmonic scale opens up free spaces for the band members to improvise. Communicating with the audience and conveying the feelings right to them form the main musical mission of the band.

Spin, while continuing the composing work for their future new album that they are planning on recording, is performing regularly in the Istanbul jazz scene.
